Physical signs in differential diagnosis of left ventricular obstructive cardiomyopathy.

چکیده
The diagnosis of left ventricular obstructive cardiomyopathy can be made in most instances by simple clinical examination, as practised by Paul Wood as early as 1960 (personal communication). Occasionally, there is difficulty in differentiating other causes of a systolic murmur associated with left ventricular disease. We have, therefore, assessed the diagnostic value of palpation of the carotid pulse and indirect carotid pulse recording, palpation of the praecordium and displacement recording, and auscultation and phonocardiography, in left ventricular obstructive cardiomyopathy with and without additional mitral regurgitation, in aortic valve and fixed subvalve stenosis, and in pure mitral regurgitation.

Diagnosis of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy.
Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, also known as left ventricular apical ballooning syndrome and stress-induced cardiomyopathy, is typically characterized by transient systolic dysfunction of the apical and mid-segments of the left ventricle, in the absence of obstructive coronary artery lesions. Patients may present with symptoms and signs of acute coronary syndrome, and the provider is challenged to d...

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is a syndrome characterized by transient acute left ventricular dysfunction, electrocardiographic changes that can mimic acute myocardial infarction and minimal release of myocardial enzymes in the absence of obstructive coronary artery disease. Reports of Takotsubo syndrome after cardiac surgery are exceptional. We describe a case of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy in a 68-ye...

cular diseases subsequently discussed. On the contrary, many ICVD show age-related clinical expression and/or have late-onset forms. The main difference is that IHD overshadows ICVD as a cause of SCD in the older population [1] . Prior to commencing the fellowship, my clinical training had left me with a perception of ICVD that was dominated by the heritable risk factors for IHD. Disorders with...

broken heart classically refers to an emotional state caused by psychological pain. Current research indicates that a broken heart is a true medical condition, not just a play on words. Broken heart syndrome is due to an exaggerated sympathetic response to stress that causes a severe but reversible left ventricular failure. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is a reversible left ventricular dysfunction t...
